On 12th August 1990, a public meeting was held in Dandadhar Baruah Girls’ High School to discuss the establishment of a B.Ed. College in Golaghat. The meeting unanimously resolved to start a B.Ed. Accordingly, a steering committee was formed in the same meeting with President Late Ponaram Neog and Secretary Mr. Kosheswar Khanikar to take the necessary steps to execute the resolution. The steering committee built a fund-collecting public donations. Then the college obtained permission from Dibrugarh University to start the classes. Dandadhar Baruah Girls’ High School authority allowed to hold the B.Ed. Classes in the school building in the evening hours from July 1991. Although the College of Teacher Education, Golaghat was established in 1990 with pioneering and untiring efforts of some conscious people, it was formally inaugurated by Sri Mridupawan Goswami, then Principal of P.G.T.C., Jorhat on 8th August 1991.
Late Shreekanta Kalita, a retired lecturer of D.R. College, Golaghat accepted the responsibility of the Principal and served till April 1997. After his retirement, Kosheswar Khanikar was appointed to the post. In the beginning, the institution was run by honorary teachers.
In 1993, Govt. of Assam gave a plot of land at Jonaki Nagar, Golaght to the College of Teacher Education, Golaghat. In August 1994, the College was shifted to its own building.
Taking into account innumerable problems and limitations faced by the institution since beginning the overall academic performance of the college is quite good. From the year 1992 onwards students from this college appeared in the B.Ed. Final Examination under the Dibrugarh University.
The goal of developing C.T.E. Golaghat into a full-fledged Govt. institution came into reality on the 22nd of June, 2009. Now the college has one principal i/c, 11 (eleven) Gazetted Teachers, 3 (three) Non-Gazetted Teachers, 1 (one) Librarian, and 11 (eleven) supporting staff. It has one boys’ and one girls’ hostel. The seating capacity of the college is 50 (Fifty). It is affiliated (permanent) to the Dibrugarh University and recognized by NCTE, New Delhi. All the members of the college are trying their best to develop the institution day by day.
